Middle Bass Island, Ohio still has a very "small town" atmosphere. Middle Bass is 805 acres, and is located within the Lake Erie Islands in Ottawa County, Ohio. It is one of 23 islands, and is the "Middle" island of the three Bass Islands. There is a general store (going through extensive renovations), post office, gift shop, two restaurants, and paved airstrip on the island as well as several nature preserves and lodging facilities.
Entertainment includes J.F. Walleyes and St. Hazards, as well as ice fishing, summer fishing, swimming, biking, and trips to all Put-in-Bay has to offer on the Sunny S. The state of Ohio purchased large areas of the island to include historic Lonz Winery, and they are currently creating a beautiful park area and expanded campground. Lonz winery will be undergoing renovation and redevelopment in the near future. The new greatly expanded state park marina is now open, providing modern conveniences. New restrooms and employee housing was completed in the fall of 2010. The new Dock Master's building will be built in 2011.
The ferry dock which currently services Miller's Ferry and the Sonny S is all new for 2011. The dock area was recently refurbished and now the facility includes a new building. Additional docks are planned in the future within the existing marina space.
More developments are still in progress!
